Habitat For Humanity Work Day Saturday, May 1st
We will be working this year on a house in the Palermo area of Upper Township, Cape May
County. More information and location details will be mailed to members in March-April,
but please keep this date open.
This marks the fourth year our local South Jersey Chapter has participated in the
annual National Service Week by helping Habitat.
Habitat For Humanity has active affiliates in all counties in South Jersey. If you
would like to get further involved and become a year-round volunteer with Habitat contact
Ralph Cooper rjcooper@bellatlantic.net and
he will provide names and phone numbers for your area. Ralph is a board member of our Penn
State Chapter and has also been a strong advocate and board member of Habitat for Humanity
Cape May County for many years.
Freshman '99 Offering Wednesday, March 10th
7-9 p.m. Vineland Adult Education Building
A panel of current Penn State students will discuss what it is like to be a Penn State
student and answer questions about life at University Park and the Commonwealth campuses.
Area high school seniors that have been accepted to Penn State, and their parents, are
invited and refreshments will be served. Invitations with directions and other information
will be mailed to each area student. A separate invitation letter is also sent to each
parent.
South Jersey Shore Annual Dinner Sunday May 23rd
3 p.m. Cranberry Run - Buena
Pot Luck $10 Per Family The Chapter provides trays of meat and members bring
appetizers, side dishes and desserts. Location directions and sign-up details will be
mailed in the coming months.
Chinese/Silent Auction - Scholarship Fund Raiser Items Needed -
Penn State related as well as local items. Gift certificates to area restaurants always
stimulate interest. Ask your favorite dining spot to donate certificates to our Penn State
Chapter and support the Scholarship Program.

A nomination committee for officers to serve next year was appointed at the recent
Board meeting, Jan 15th
New SJS Board Members
New board members Roslyn and Arnold Oberson of Linwood attended their first meeting
this month. Their daughter graduated from Penn State last year and they were recognized at
the Chapter's Spring Dinner meeting.
In Memoriam
Long time Chapter member Mary Calhoun of Millville recently passed away. Mary had been
a strong supporter of our Penn State Scholarship effort. Flowers were sent to the family
on behalf of the Chapter members.
Chapter Web Site
Web site, maintained by Chapter member Ralph Cooper, has now been moved to a new
Internet Provider in Wildwood NJ.

College Fair Activities
Chapter board members staffed Penn State information tables at the annual Atlantic City
Kiwanis Club College Fair held at Atlantic Community College during the Fall. Chapter
members included Bruce Engle, Ralph Cooper and David Stonage. Gary Thomas and Ralph Cooper
attended a special presentation in Vineland by our regional Penn State recruiting
coordinator Debbie Little.
Our South Jersey Shore Penn State Club's table at the annual Wildwood Catholic High
School College Fair for Cape May County was staffed by Gary Thomas, Dave Haberle, John
McKee, Sandra Fox and Julie Engle. Our Penn Staters helping at the Cumberland County
College Fair, held at Cumberland Community College, were Ed Nicholanco and David Stonage.
