Penn State's 2000 Season
Quarterback Coach Jay Paterno
Highlights Program As Local
Shore Chapter's Guest Speaker  

   The past five years he worked with the tight ends and was recruiting coordinator, 
an area where he remains very active. Paterno has developed a strong group of 
returning tight ends, led by Tony Stewart and John Gilmore. 

   A 1990 Penn State graduate, Paterno was a reserve quarterback on his father's squad. He lettered 
as a senior in 1989 and was a member of the 1986 National Championship team. 

   He got his coaching start as an undergraduate assistant at Penn State in the spring of 1990. He also
was a graduate assistant coach at Virginia for three years and wide receivers and tight ends coach at 
Connecticut for two. Paterno was the quarterbacks coach at James Madison in 1994, helping the Dukes
to the second round of the Division I-AA playoffs.

College Fair Activities
Chapter board members staffed Penn State information tables at College Fairs throughout South Jersey again this year.  
Sites included:
    - Atlantic City Kiwanis Club College Fair held at Atlantic Community College
    - Wildwood Catholic High School College Fair for Cape May County
    - Cumberland County College Fair at Cumberland Community College

Habitat For Humanity Work Day 2000
    Plans are being finalized for a Penn State South Jersey Shore Habitat Work Day
this summer in Atlantic City. Our date for the Habitat support this year is Saturday June 17th.
Details on the Habitat Work Day will be mailed and included on the Chapter Web site during the month of May.

Graduating Penn State Seniors 
    When you get your diploma this Spring you also become members of the Penn State Alumni Association and our South Jersey Shore Chapter. Contact Chapter President for details on all of the benefits and opportunities for you and your family. 

Scholarships - Penn State South Jersey Shore
    Applications have been received from area students at many of the 24 high schools in our South Jersey Shore area. Chapter Board members are reviewing scholarship candidates and the selections will be announced at the Annual Dinner on May 17th.

Fall Send-Off Party for Penn State Freshman
    The Chapter's annual Send-Off gathering for new Freshman will be held in early August. Date and location of the gathering will be announced in the coming months.

Fall 2000 - Football TV Parties @ the Shore
    Locations and dates will be announced in the future.

Football Kick-Off Classic ~~ August 27th @ the Meadowlands
    Chapter President Gary Thomas has announced plans for a TV party at his residence for pool-side viewing of the Penn State - USC Kick-Off Classic this August. More details will be 
forthcoming in future newsletters and on the Web.

Al and Lois Beattie enjoy a recent NJ Shore tailgate gathering at Penn  State's Beaver Stadium.	Jody and Arron Thomas, the daughter and son of Gary and Donna Thomas of Ocean View, NJ,  at one of last year's University Park football games.
